Welcome to Menlo-Atherton Little League!
Since 1949, M-A Little League has been focused on providing local community baseball with an emphasis on teamwork, sportsmanship, and skill development.
Where Great Teammates Become Great Friends
Little League is where lifelong friendships - among the players AND their parents - are formed. While we have many clinics, practices, and opportunities for players at every level to improve their skills, we also offer an unparalleled community building experience.
We offer many unique programs that allow our players to feel rewarded and encouraged for the hard work they put in to the game. They are celebrated at Opening Day, the incredible new "Under the Lights" event, Player Appreciation Day, Hit-a-thon, Home Run Derby, and more.
For younger players, guaranteed playing time and friend requests for teams allows them to ease into sports in a low-stress, fun environment.
The older players get to feel like major leaguers in our custom uniforms and game streaming for Majors games. We also have professional clinic options and batting cage time so they can work on their skills throughout the season.
In a world where youth sports are becoming increasingly expensive and stressful, M-A Little League provides a haven for children to just enjoy playing baseball with their friends.
Spring Divisions
Spring registration usually opens in mid-late October and runs through the early spring. Early sign ups can save you money so sign up now!
New-to-baseball players are welcomed and can join the league at any age. Questions? registrar@mabaseball.org
Wiffle Ball (4 year olds)
Wiffle ball is focused on providing a fun introduction to baseball. Players will receive a jersey and hat and will participate in weekly events (games/practices) each Saturday.
Teams will have a short 30 minute practice before a 30-45 minute "game" on Saturdays. Games will likely be three innings, and each player will bat each inning. Outs will not be recorded, gloves are optional and not necessary, and parent participation in the field is highly encouraged. If the team finishes early, additional innings can be played based on team interest.
We try our best to group players from the same school or friends together on teams. Friend requests can be submitted during registration.
T-Ball (5 year olds)
Players hit a ball off the tee. Most games are 4 innings, and each player will get to bat each inning. More rules can be found on the T-Ball rules page.
We try our best to group players from the same school or friends together on teams. Friend requests can be submitted during registration.
In T-ball, there is usually one practice during the week and one game on Saturdays. Games are often played at the Upper Laurel campus field or the Encinal outfield.
Coach Pitch (6 year olds)
Games are often 4-innings long, and each player will get to bat each inning. In this division, coaches will gently pitch the ball to their players about 5 times. If the player doesn't make contact, the ball will be placed on a tee so the player can successfully hit the ball. More rules can be found on the Coach Pitch rules page.
We try our best to group players from the same school or friends together on teams. Friend requests can be submitted during registration.
In Coach Pitch, there is usually one practice during the week and one game on Saturdays. Games are often played at the Upper Laurel campus field or the Encinal outfield.
Machine Pitch (7-8 year olds)
Machine Pitch is a significant step-up from Coach Pitch in terms of game pace and competitive play.
During games, an umpire will feed balls into a pitching machine to the players. If the player swings three times without hitting the ball, they will be called out, so this is a step closer to regular baseball although players can't walk or steal. More info is on the Machine Pitch rules page.
There is usually one practice during the week or on Sunday, with one game during the week on Tues, Wed, or Thursday around 5PM, and then another game on Saturday. Games are played at Encinal Field.
To keep teams balanced, teams are organized through a draft process. Players must attend the Player Evaluation Day, and then the coaches and the board will facilitate a process to form teams.
While it can be disappointing for some players to not be with friends, it is a great way to meet other players and families in the league.
Minors (9-10 year olds)
Kids will start learning how to pitch, and there are other base running rules that increase the pace of the game like stealing and tagging up. More info can be found on the Minors rules page.
There is usually one practice during the week or on Sundays, with one game during the week on Tues, Wed, or Thurs and another on Saturdays. Games are played at the Homer Field at Willie Mays Ballpark, which is located inside Holbook Palmer Park. This field was re-constructed in 2015 and features a grass infield, bullpens, and a outfield fence (Home Runs are possible)!
Teams are formed using a draft process, and players must attend Player Evaluation day so the coaches can use that info to help shape their teams.
Majors (11-12 year olds)
This is the top division that plays games with in the M-A program.
Overall, the bar for play is raised in this division and there are a lot more defensive plays as well as the excitement of more home runs! More information can be found on the Majors rules page.
There is usually one practice during the week or on Sundays, with one game during the week on Tues, Wed, or Thurs and another on Saturdays. Games are played at Burgess Park.
District 52 Juniors (13-14 year olds)
The Juniors teams play other nearby Little League programs like Redwood City, Alpine, Palo Alto, San Mateo, etc, on the District level.
In this division, the players will play on fields that have the pitcher's mound set further back and also a longer distance between the bases. Games are often played at the larger Burgess field (near the soccer fields), Nealon Park, or at the fields of other Little League programs.
Challenger
The Challenger division is focused on providing a fun baseball experience for athletes with disabilities. The age range for this division is wide - please contact the registrar at registrar@mabaseball.org for more details. There is no registration fee.
Practices are often held at Holbrook-Palmer Park and games can be played there or against other leagues. Please contact us anytime for more information.
Registration
Little League Age
The national Little League program determines league age based on the player's birthdate with respect to an August 31 cutoff date. This baseball age is most often used to help determine division placement and eligibility for different programs, etc.
To determine your player's baseball age, please check out this page: link
Boundary and Eligibility
The national Little League organization establishes boundaries to foster fair play between various Little League programs. A player is eligible for the M-A program if they live within the M-A boundary, if they attend a school within the boundary, or if they have an older sibling that played in the M-A program.
*NEW for the 2025 spring season* If your player is Little League Age is 4-7, they can play in ANY Little League, including M-A Little League. When a player is 7, they must choose a Little League program and continue to register with that program for upcoming seasons. If your player is a Little League Age 8 or older, they must play in the program they are eligible for.
If there are any questions, please contact us anytime at registrar@mabaseball.org
More detailed info is available on the Player Eligibility page.
Division Placement
Division placement is primarily based on age, grade, and ability level. The league has a designated board role called the "Player Agent" for each division who helps ensures that all players are placed in an appropriate division level.
Player Agent contact information can be found here: Board
Scholarships
Scholarships are available for families in need. Please contact us at registrar@mabaseball.org for more information.
Please register early and spread the word!
When players register early, it helps the league better plan certain aspects of the season. Also, please spread the word to other friend who may be interested. It's ok for new players to join the league at any age range!

Volunteering
M-A Little League is an all-volunteer organization, and the league also relies on parent volunteers as coaches, assistant coaches, Positive Coaching Alliance volunteers and more.
Volunteering is a lot of fun and rewarding!
The league helps support the coaches and other positions with some level of training and guidance as needed so we can maintain our standard of sportsmanship, player development, and teamwork.
Supporting M-A Little League
Annual Hit-a-thon Fundraiser
Registration costs only cover a portion of the M-A Little League operating budget which includes uniforms, city field reservations, player development items like batting cage time, etc.
M-A Little League has ONE annual league-wide fundraiser called the Hit-a-thon which helps cover the remainder of our operational budget and also support other improvements like field upgrades, special events, and more. We ask that players raise pledges to help meet our goal.
The Hit-a-thon event takes place in early May, which includes batting challenges for all divisions, and a special set of competition for the older Majors players:
- Home Run Derby - Very exciting
- Golden Arm Competition - Allows players to demonstrate their accuracy for long throws
- Road Runner Competition - Showcases runner speed around the bases
Team Sponsorships
We are also looking for team sponsors each year. In return for sponsorship, the supporting business will get their name added to the jersey and other exposure during the course of the season.
Please contact us at sponsorships@mabaseball.org for more info.
Event Sponsorships
There are also events during the year which can be sponsored, like the Hit-a-thon competitions or the Under the Lights event.
Please contact us at sponsorships@mabaseball.org for more info.
Fall Ball Program
Fall Ball is focused on player development and combines a mix of skill clinics, fun non-traditional practices/competitions, and regular game experiences to prepare players for the upcoming spring season.
This is is great chance for players who are new to pitching to learn about it, or for veteran pitchers to improve their skills.
There are often a mixture of clinics run by professionals from the M-A high school or other programs as well as some traditional games to promote game experience.
We realize that some players plan to participate in multiple sports in the fall, so we do our best to accommodate these schedules so players can play both. Also, games take place on Sundays, which avoids Saturday conflicts with other sports.
